Setup Local WordPress
This post provides steps to setup local WordPress environment on a windows system. Before we start with process let’s check out some prerequisites which we need when setting up local WordPress on a windows system.
We must have below application on windows machine :
xampp is software which helps you to run your application. XAMPP is a completely free, easy to install Apache distribution containing MariaDB, PHP, and Perl. The XAMPP open source package has been set up to be incredibly easy to install and to use.

You can download xampp from above link which suits your system.
Installation of xampp is easy just click on next button and xampp will automatically setup environment for you.
Make sure to set the path to store xamppfiles. The default path comes under “c” drive.

Follow below steps to setup WordPress environment on windows system :
1. Download WordPress
Now download the WordPress from official site “https://wordpress.org/download/” and copy this WordPress zip file to “c:xampphtdocs“.
Once you copy the zip extract it into the same directory and change the name of the directory as per your requirement.
2. Setup WordPress
Open your browser and hit the URL “http://localhost/wordpress”. It will open the WordPress setup page. Check below screenshot and setup local WordPress.
The first page gives you information about the WordPress. Read it and then click on the “Let’s Go” button.
Go to the “http://localhost/phpmyadmin” and create a database for your WordPress site. This database information we need while running WordPress setup.
When open PHPMyAdmin Click on “New” and then give the name of DB “wordpressnew”.
Click on “create” button.
Now feel the require information like database name, mysql username, and password, database host etc.
Click on Submit button. This step will configure “wp-config.php” file for your WordPress.

After filling correct information WordPress setup will prompt you to click on “Run install“.
Next step you need to fill the details of your WordPress site. Make sure you store the provided password at a safe place. Because this password will help you to login on WordPress backend panel.
Once filling all the information click on “Install WordPress“.
After successful setup click on login button and use the username and password to login on WordPress backend. Where you can do configurations for your WordPress sites.
Step 3: Check WordPress Site
Now hit the URL “http://localhost/wordpress” which open your first WordPress site. Now configure it as per your requirement by using WordPress backend panel.
